I needed to buy a car and had no money or credit rating to get one. Talk about a blow to a man’s pride!
I grew up in a small town in Texas near the Gulf Coast. There were five of us kids, and we were a one-income family that did not talk about or learn about money or financial things around the house as we grew up. The reality of that lack of knowledge and financial literacy came home to roost for me at the age of 25 when I was a 1st LT in the US Army. I had been living paycheck to paycheck enjoying life while stationed in Germany, and had just arrived back in the USA. I needed to buy a car and had no money or credit rating to get one. Talk about a blow to a man’s pride!
THIS started me on a journey in pursuit of NOT JUST financial literacy, but the ability to have the freedom to do what I wanted, when I wanted it, and to not allow the lack of money, debt or my credit rating to prevent me …. That is not living. It was time for me to take control of my life and live it!
My financial journey took me in and out of debt, learning the importance of understanding credit, and managing and paying off debt to obtain the snow balling benefits of being “debt-free.’
I learned the value of multiple streams of income, how to create and grow wealth using different investment strategies, and how to protect against different kinds and levels of risk all along the way!
